history

The history of the Lauta village church dates back to the late Middle Ages. In 1457 a church built from field stones, the parish church "Lawthe" belonging to the diocese of Meißen , was first mentioned in a document.

The church in Lauta-Dorf is named after the legendary Laurentiusglocke St. Laurentiuskirche , which hangs in the neighboring wooden stack of bells . This was cast in 1512 and, according to legend, comes from an ancient chapel on the Koschenberg. After this was destroyed, she found a new home in Lauta-Dorf. Today it is depicted in the Lauta city arms.

The church got its present form after the Thirty Years War , in which the village and church were badly damaged. Reconstruction began in 1652. In the following years the altar (1657), pulpit (1660) and gallery (1667) were created.

Furnishing

Inside the church, Michael Krumach painted pictures of the life, suffering and death of Jesus Christ on the gallery.
