The St. Lucia Catholic Chapel is a listed church building in Erflinghausen , a district of Meschede in the Hochsauerlandkreis ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

History and architecture

According to oral tradition, the founders are said to have been the Kattol, Scheiwe and Kremer families, whose farms can already be found in the treasury registers of the 16th century. The year of construction was confirmed in 1996 by a dendrochronological examination. A ceiling beam and a post of the roof turret were examined . Accordingly, fresh processing (felling) was carried out in 1725 and installation in 1726. The chapel was renovated in 1996 and consecrated in 1997.

The small eight-sided central building with a slate-covered hood is crowned by a lantern . The roof turret is decorated with profiled and carved wood. The baroque altar dates from the middle of the 17th century. One offering box is dated 1676, the pictures are from the 19th century.

Similarities with other church buildings in the urban area of Meschede

Similar to the chapel for the 14 helpers in need near Remblinghausen and the chapel on the Schlade near Calle, this one too has an octagonal floor plan, is roofed, slated and crowned with a baroque hood with a lantern. All three chapels are in the urban area of Meschede, and they were probably built under the direction of the same builder.
