history

The collegiate church of St. Maria in Diez is located below the Count's Castle and dates from the late 13th century. It was the seat of a collegiate foundation , which Count Gerhard IV. Von Diez (1272-1306) had founded in 1289 and which existed until 1564. Inside there are several tombs of Diez and Nassau noblemen, among which the artistically elaborate one of Princess Henriette Amalie von Diez-Nassau stands out. Another striking piece of equipment is the Romanesque tombstone. It is older than the Church, its origin is unknown.
