The early Gothic Protestant church of St. Maria in vinea (Maria in the vineyard) was the parish church of the old town of Warburg until 1283 . Then the Paderborn bishop Otto von Rietberg ordered the handover of the church to the Dominican order he had called to Warburg . St. Mary's Visitation was built as the new parish church in the old town . St. Maria in vinea remained the church of the Dominican monastery until secularization in 1803. Since 1824 it has been the church of the Protestant community.

Next to the church is the Marianum high school in the former Dominican monastery.

Furnishing

The church has a baroque high altar, which was donated in 1666. The high altar in the nearby Erasmus Chapel was modeled on him.
