The St. Marien-Hospital Hamm is a Catholic hospital in Hamm with 13 departments at two locations. The house is run by the Catholic St. Johannes Society Dortmund gGmbH.
history
During the cholera epidemic in the summer of 1849, the Cooperative of the Sisters of Mercy of St. Vincent von Paul sent nurses to Hamm for outpatient care. The cooperative followed a call from the St. Agnes community . Out of this task, the St. Marien Hospital Hamm was founded by the sisters of St. Vincenz on December 18, 1849. After a few extensions, the parts of the building were erected between 1924 and 1928 that represent the basic substance of today's house. 70 percent of the hospital was destroyed by air raids during World War II. The construction work proceeded quickly and by the 100th anniversary of the hospital, 350 beds were available again.
The renovations continued in the following years. The nurses' home (1976) should be mentioned in this context as well as the first construction phase of the operating theater, the new building of the clinic for nuclear medicine and finally the new building of the psychiatric clinic in the years 1993–1995.
In 1984 the St. Marien Hospital Hamm took over the St. Elisabeth children's clinic on the Nordenwall from the sponsorship of the St. Agnes parish. The Federal Miners' Hospital in Knappenstrasse was also taken over by the St. Marien Hospital this year. In 1999 the St. Elisabeth children's clinic was merged into the clinic for children and young people in Hamm.
The Katholische St.-Johannes-Gesellschaft Dortmund gGmbH has supported the St. Marien Hospital Hamm since 2011 .
