The parish church of St. Michael is a listed religious building, which is located in the district of Ahe in the district town of Bergheim in the Rhein-Erft district .

history

Ahe originally belonged to the parish of Heppendorf. On April 1, 1924, Archbishop Cardinal Schulte elevated the rectorate parish of Ahe to a parish. Up until now there was only one chapel dedicated to St. Michael in Ahe. On April 7, 1929, the foundation stone was laid for the construction of a new church. The plans were drawn up by the Sindorf architect Hans Jülich. The church was consecrated on October 30 of the same year.

In the days after the American troops marched in on February 28, 1945, the church was badly damaged by artillery fire. The war damage could not be repaired until 1949. Further renovations took place in 1952 and 1993 to 1995.

The parish church of St. Michael is a brick hall church. The church building is characterized by a four-story tower with a hood attached to the side. The outer wall of the tower is loosened up by a brick mosaic. In the area of ​​the entrance, which is located behind a triple arched loggia, there is a round bay window. The arched windows in the hall are each grouped to form twin windows. The church houses a wooden crucifix from the 14th century and a Virgin and Child from the 17th century.

The parish church of St. Michael is registered with monument number 37 in the list of architectural monuments in Ahe (Bergheim) . The description reads:

The church building is characterized by a 4-sided tower with a 4-sided hood, which is exposed on the side. The outer wall of the tower is loosened up by a brick mosaic. In the area of ​​the entrance, which is located behind a triple arched loggia, there is a round corner bay window. The consistently arched windows in the hall are each grouped into twin windows. There are arched sound windows on the 4-storey tower. Ahe used to belong to the church of Heppendorf, but had its own parish. Ahe became a chapel congregation in 1894, and an independent parish in 1924.
