St. Peter was first mentioned in a document in 1225. The nave dates from the 13th century; a south aisle and vestibule were added to it in the 15th century. At the same time, the Bishop of Exeter, Edmund Lacy, allowed a cemetery to be built next to the church. In 1840, St. Peter was in such a dilapidated condition that the faithful had to attend the service in neighboring Noss Mayo in the Chapel of Ease. After the construction of the new parish church, the name St. Peter the Poor Fisherman developed for the population . and the church fell into disrepair. In 1972 the church was taken into the care of the British Churches Conservation Trust and in 1973 it was subjected to basic security measures. Services are occasionally held there.

The new church

Since the Parish of Revelstoke did not have its own parish church, Edward Charles Baring, Lord Revelstoke, had a large neo-Gothic church built in Noss Mayo in 1882 for the parish, which is also the patronage of St. Peter carries. The church was built as a three-aisled church with a western tower in front. The choir protrudes over the aisles and has a straight choir closure. A new cemetery was built around the church. In 1896 an Anglican parish church was built by Baring in the Canadian pioneer town of Revelstoke , which is also dedicated to St. Peter is consecrated.
