St. Quirinus in Cologne-Mauenheim

St. Quirinus is the Roman Catholic parish church in Cologne-Mauenheim in North Rhine-Westphalia .

history

The Mauenheim parish church takes up the patronage of the medieval St. Qurinus chapel, which belonged to the local Fronhof of the Cologne Kunibertsstift and was about 700 meters southeast of today's church location. The chapel was first mentioned in 1286, when the Niehl parish of St. Katharina , which also belonged to the Kunibertsstift, appointed a vicar for pastoral care there. The chapel burned down in 1557 and was demolished in 1665.

The new Mauenheim parish church was built in 1927 according to plans by the architect Eduard Endler in the form of a three-aisled early Christian basilica with a semicircular apse with historicizing columns and capitals, the beams bear above which smooth upper clad walls with arched windows rise.

In 1966 the stepped gables were removed and a simple basilica facade was built in their place. A free-standing bell tower was added to the side of the church, which was given its current height of 24 meters in 1976.
