St. Sebastian (Altenparkstein)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Roman Catholic St. Sebastian local chapel in the Altenparkstein district of Kirchendemenreuth belongs to the Kirchendemenreuth branch , which is now managed from Parkstein together with the parish of St. Pankratius .

history

The chapel was first built in 1865; as it had become dilapidated over time, two thirds of it had to be rebuilt in 1926. The chapel was approved for "private devotion only" by Bishop Ignatius of Senestrey . The villagers also had to undertake to maintain the structural integrity of the chapel in the future. After the partial reconstruction, it was inaugurated again in 1926 by Expositus Deubzer von Kirchendemenreuth.

The building was also renewed in 1993 by the Altenparkstein village community under the direction of the mayor Franz Schneider. At the end of the work, a thanksgiving service was held on August 9, 1993 with Pastor Leonhard Schinner from Parkstein .

Building description

The chapel is a simple, steep-roofed building with a semicircular closed chancel . It has a ridge turret with a pointed helmet attached . A granite portal serves as the entrance, the side windows are designed around the top.

Furnishing

The chapel has an altar with two turned columns, the altarpiece depicts Mary with the child . Of the two figures on the altar, the one on the right can be recognized as Saint Sebastian, the one on the left is probably Jesus the good shepherd . Four more pictures adorn the chapel building on the side walls.

Bells

A bell was purchased from a Regensburg bell foundry in 1926 and is dedicated to the Holy Virgin Mary.
