The St Mary's Church is a Catholic church building in the Scottish city of Glasgow . In 1993 the structure was included in the Scottish Monument Lists. The upgrade to the highest monument category A took place in 1997.

history

The building was constructed between 1841 and 1842. The planning architect is not known. In 1865, arcades were installed by George Goldie and the ceiling, which had collapsed that year, was renewed. Further revisions were made in 1870, 1895 and 1954, the latter by Gillespie Kidd & Coia .

St Mary's Church stands at the junction of Forbes Street and Abercromby Street in east Glasgow. At the time of construction, it was said to be the largest Catholic church in Scotland after St Andrew's Cathedral . The elongated building is designed in a classical style. The west-facing main facade is rusticated . It closes with a triangular gable with angel reliefs in the tympanum . Above there is a ridge turret with the bell. The side facades are made of quarry stone and designed with narrow, high windows. The final gable roof is covered with slate.
