The State University of Economy and Finance St. Petersburg ( Russian Санкт-Петербургский государственный университет экономики и финансов / Saint Peterburgski gossudarstwenny uniwersitet ekonomiki i Finansów in short Финэк or FINEK ) is the largest business university in Saint Petersburg and one of the largest of its kind in Russia .
history
The Saint Petersburg State University of Economics and Finance was founded in 1930 as the Leningrad University of Finance (Russian Ленинградский финансово-экономический институт, ЛФЭИ / Leningradski finansovo-ekonomitscheski institut, LFSI). During the war, the training company was evacuated to the Caucasus. Since the 1960s, the university has been a leader in training Russian economists. In 1963 it was renamed the Vosnesensky Institute after Vosnesensky . On September 23, 1991, it was converted into a university by the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation and was given its current name.
After the end of the communist era, business studies were fundamentally changed and supplemented with new subjects such as micro and macroeconomics, credit / finance and securities, and marketing. FINEC founded the first marketing chair in Russia. The students must take one of the foreign languages German, English, French, Spanish or Chinese.
The university is located in the center of Saint Petersburg on the Griboyedov Canal near Nevsky Prospect . The head office is a classical building by the famous Italian architect Giacomo Quarenghi from 1790, the former seat of the currency bank.
In 2011 around 15,000 students studied here. An international research conference has been held annually for students since 1991, where they can give their presentations. In 2009 the research and training center for energy policy was founded. It works on energy-related issues with a regional focus on Eurasia.
The Saint Petersburg State Economic University was established on August 1, 2012 as a result of the union of the Saint Petersburg State University of Economics and Finance with the Saint Petersburg State University of Engineering and Economics (Санкт-Петербургский государственный инженерно-энесверченомисевемичевемиченоминономисеверчетичерский. On December 29, 2012, the Saint Petersburg State University of Service and Economics (Санкт-Петербургский государственный университет сервиса и экономики) was incorporated into the newly founded university. The three previously independent universities have been converted into institutes within the university.
The university cooperates with other European universities within the framework of the EuroFaculty project in Pskow in promoting entrepreneurship and business start-ups .
Education
The academic year at the university begins in the first days of September. The winter semester runs from September 1st to January 31st (examination period from December 25th), the summer semester from February 7th to June 30th (examination period from May 25th). The course is divided into a two-year basic course and a three-year main course.
Exchange students are allowed to take part in most of the regular lectures. In addition, they are offered special courses in English, while participation in a Russian course is compulsory.
