The GRZ is one of the leading Russian design offices for submarine-based ballistic missiles . Since the early 1960s, the GRZ has developed three generations of missiles for the Soviet naval fleet, and these missiles still form the backbone of the Russian submarine-based nuclear forces today.

Today the GRZ participates in the programs of the Russian space agency and is on the way to generating an increasing part of its income from civilian business. Among other things, it developed launch vehicles that can be launched either from submarines ( Shtil and Wolna ), from land-based launch facilities or from ships and aircraft. The GRZ also participates in the development of small spacecraft.
