Stable crack propagation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The stable crack propagation takes place with constant exergy consumption and can ultimately lead to a macroscopic tough fracture . A process of stable crack propagation that extends over a long period of time is called subcritical (gradual) crack growth . It is characteristic of fatigue failure , creep failure and fracture due to stress corrosion cracking .
