Høyjord stave church

The Høyjord stave church is a Norwegian stave church . It is located in Høyjord in Sandefjord municipality in Vestfold og Telemark province .

The stave church was first mentioned in documents in 1374, but is very likely a lot older. It is a simple long church with a central mast and a closed choir. The central mast probably served as a support for a roof turret with a bell tower. The original church had porticos. The church was badly dilapidated towards the end of the 17th century and was therefore almost completely restored. There was also an outer cladding. In 1840 wall cladding was installed inside the church and in 1900 a sacristy was added.

After the Second World War , the original appearance of the church was reconstructed. The roof including the turret was reconstructed based on the model of the demolished Hallingdal stave church. From the original richly carved portals in the west and in the south-west corner and in the south of the choir, only a carved archivolt of the west portal remains.
