Look into the choir.

The church is a modern copy of a medieval stave church . The building, designed in Lom, Norway, based on the Haltdalen stave church and shipped to Iceland, was given to Iceland on July 30, 2000 as a gift from Norway . It was built to commemorate the millennium in memory of the church built on Iceland in 1000 by the Norwegian King Olav I Tryggvason ; however, this church was not a stave church. Olav I was one of the first Christian kings in Norway and promoted Christianization in Norway.
