Stachys (Bible)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Stachys (Στάχυς; bl. 52–55 AD) was an urban Roman Christian who is mentioned in the New Testament .

In Romans , Paul sends greetings to his “dear Stachys” ( Rom 16.9  ZB ). Stachys is named here together with Urbanus , whom Paul describes as his "co-worker". "Urbanus and (less often) Stachys are slave names." The list of greetings in Romans is interesting in view of the social composition of the Christian community.
