Nuremberg City Archives

The Nuremberg City Archives are the municipal archives of the city of Nuremberg and the city administration department responsible for all questions relating to city history. The city archive is located in the Norishalle at Marientorgraben 8, on the eastern edge of Nuremberg's old town.

The inventory of around 45,000 media units can be fully researched online. An affiliated collection of around 8,000 newspaper clippings from local history has only been recorded conventionally so far.

The city council of Nuremberg appointed Georg Wolfgang Karl Lochner in 1864 to set up a city archive. From 1865 until the end of his life in 1882 he was first and city archivist of Nuremberg. Michael Diefenbacher was head of the city archive from 1990 to 2019.

The office of the Association for the History of the City of Nuremberg is located at the City Archives.
