City fortifications Weitra
The city fortifications of Weitra are the largely preserved medieval city walls of the city of Weitra in Lower Austria .
history
The city fortifications were mentioned in a document in 1292. The city wall runs to the west along a step to the Grünbach and Lainsitz . The city wall was initially secured by ditches on the north and east sides. In the south-west, east and north, the city walls were additionally secured with kennels in the 15th century . These kennels were removed again in the second half of the 18th century. In the north, in a spur-like expansion around the Weitra parish church, the battlements of the city wall have been preserved in the north and south-west. The south-western section of the city wall was reinforced with the documentary mentions 1431 and 1494 with five integrated round towers.
