The library of the city of Zschopau is named after its founder Jacob Georg Bodemer . The library, founded in 1863, is now housed in Wildeck Castle.

history

The foundation for the library was laid in 1863 by the local entrepreneur Jacob Georg Bodemer. He donated 714 books in the fields of theology, education, literature, history, geography and natural sciences. At first the library was housed in the town hall, later also in other buildings in the city, for example in the youth home on Johannisstrasse.

In 1956 the facility, known as the district and children's library, found its home in the rooms of Wildeck Castle. Among other things, the library was responsible for the 25 community libraries in the Zschopau district.

As part of the renovation of the palace from the mid-1990s, the library was able to move into new, reconstructed rooms on two floors of the west wing in 2001. Until then, the children's and adult libraries were housed in two different areas of the castle, separated from each other.

There is a sponsoring association to support the library, which enriches the city's cultural life with various events.

Library holdings

Around 34,150 items are available for loan. The library employs four people and has around 3000 active users and over 60,000 visitors. The library participates in lending in Germany.
