The Stadtblänke Minden is a biotope and floodplain on the eastern bank of the Weser in the East Westphalian city of Minden in North Rhine-Westphalia .

location

The Stadtblänke is located on the east bank of the Weser on the former Weser Island Brückenkopf in the right bank of the Weser . The site belongs to the Minden Waterways and Shipping Office . A blank is a bank that is flooded by the river or falls dry, depending on the water level. The developing fauna and flora are specially adapted for these living conditions. The widening of the cross-section of the river ensures better flood protection and drainage of the flood wave.

history

The application to set up the Stadtblänke, which goes back to an initiative of the Weserfreunde Minden association , was approved by the Detmold district government in 2015. The work was subsidized by the state and supported by the Sönnichsen & Partner office. The earthworks were carried out in 2019.

A little to the north on this bank was the Ludwigsbad, which is fed with water from the Weser. It was shut down in the 1950s because the water pollution of the Weser no longer allowed this use.
