The Ibbenbüren town museum is a town and local history museum that deals with the history and development of the town of Ibbenbüren in the Tecklenburger Land . It is located in the listed Villa Többen , also known as Haus Herold , from 1892.

history

As early as 1933, the Ibbenbüren local history association founded the first city museum on Brunnenstrasse . However, this was destroyed only eleven years later in World War II and was not rebuilt. It was not until 2007, when the city was about to sell the Herold house but could not find a buyer, that the idea of a city museum was taken up again. So in August 2007 the Friends of the Heimatmuseum was founded and started its work. On November 10, 2007 the city of Ibbenbüren left the villa to the friends' association for use as a museum; the official agreement on this was concluded on January 23, 2008. Since then, Haus Herold has housed the city museum. In consultation with the Ibbenbüren registry office, weddings are also offered here in a historical setting.

exhibition

In addition to a permanent exhibition of memorabilia, which documents the history of the city of Ibbenbüren from the earliest settlement to a medium-sized town with around 50,000 inhabitants, special exhibitions are also shown. These deal in particular with individual topics relating to the history of the city.
