The parish church of St. Laurentius is the parish church of Gleisdorf in Styria.

history

The first written mention of the parish in Gleisdorf took place in 1229. The branch church of the parish of Sankt Ruprecht an der Raab was completed around 1500. From 1670 to 1672 the church was expanded under master builder Michael Arhan. This was consecrated to St. Lawrence . From 1891 to 1894 the existing church was expanded to the east according to plans by the Graz architect Robert Mikovics and the appearance of the sacred building was permanently changed.

Building description

The nave consists of five bays. From the time of the renovation in 1894, the church has a historicist interior designed by August von Wörndle. The high altar (1894) presents a picture of the church saint. The left side altar bears a picture of St. Johannes Nepomuk (1720 by Carl Pflänzl), the right side altar a picture of St. Franz Xavier . In the chancel of the church there is a walk-in baptismal font sunk into the floor in the form of a Greek cross (1997).

A Roman stone from the 2nd century is attached to the north side of the facade.

On the main square in front of the parish church there is a Marian column from 1665 with the sculptures of Saints Sebastian, Rochus, Joseph and Johannes Nepomuk.
