Jacinto da Conceição

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Brother Jacinto da Conceição († 1761 or 1762 in Portuguese Timor ) was a Dominican priest in the Portuguese Timor colony in the 18th century.

When Governor Manuel Correia de Lacerda died in office in 1751, Jacinto da Conceição and João da Hornay , the leader of the Topasse in a government council ( Conselho Governativo ), took over the administration of the colony until the new Governor Manuel Doutel de Figueiredo Sarmento in May 2 the colony arrived.

Governor Sebastião de Azevedo e Brito (1759 to 1760) came into conflict with the Dominicans. Finally Jacinto da Conceição had the governor arrested and in 1760 deported him to Goa . Again a government council took over the administration, this time until 1761 with Jacinto da Conceição, Vicente Ferreira de Carvalho and Dom José , the Liurai of Alas . But Jacinto da Conceição was murdered by a co-conspirator in 1761/62. Dom José also died, so that Carvalho ruled alone for a while, until 1762 a new councilor from brother Francisco de Purificação and the Topasse ruler Francisco da Hornay III. was founded, who ruled Timor until the arrival of the new governor Dionísio Gonçalves Rebelo Galvão .
