Hen Night
Hen Night ( Engl. "Henn evening"), even hen party is a premarital wedding custom of the prospective bride in the UK , in Ireland and Australia and the female counterpart to the " Stag Party ". In the USA the custom is called a bachelorette party , in Canada it is also called a stagette party .
Characteristic
The feminine variant of the premarital drinking party is more recent than the corresponding activities of the groom; in the meantime, however, the rituals - including excessive consumption of alcohol - have converged. In an empirical study of pre-wedding customs of women, sociologist Beth Montemurro, a professor at Penn State University , found three elements common to all bachelorette parties:
- Alcohol consumption
- Sexual issues and innuendos
- All female guest list
The bachelorette party or hen night is mostly celebrated outside the house, for example in a pub or in a night club. When walking through the bar scene, the future brides often wear a bridal veil or a printed T-shirt to identify them .
Differentiation from other customs
The Hen Night is comparable to the bachelor party that is widespread in German-speaking countries . In contrast to the hen party or the bridal shower , the party does not take place at home.
