Cattle passport

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The cattle passport since 1 July 1998, the identity of each cow in Germany and replaced the valid in the period from 28 October 1995 to 30 June 1998 accompanying document. There are similar documents for cattle in all EU countries. When the Cattle Traffic Ordinance came into force on July 14, 2007, the cattle passport was not abolished, but the largely identical master data sheet can be used as a cattle passport. The owner receives the master data sheet after he has reported a birth to the animal traceability and information system . If the animal is sold, it must be handed over to the new owner.

The cattle passport contains data on the cattle to which it belongs. These data are:

  • Life ear tag number
  • Date of birth
  • gender
  • race
  • Mother's ear tag number
  • Data of the establishment of birth or information on the origin at import and
  • the registration number of each further holder or owner with date of arrival and departure.

This serves to be able to understand the path of the cattle. Knowing about this is particularly important in the case of outbreaks of contagious diseases , after discovering abnormalities after slaughter or other deaths or for tracing the food obtained from them. In this way, all possible contact points can be determined and appropriate preventive measures can be taken there.

Like every passport, the cattle passport contains an issue date, data on the issuing authority and a passport number. The last entry in a cattle pass was the date of death and the reason for death ( slaughter , death , home slaughter ).
