The former Kaiseringen funicular railway led from Kaiseringen station to the Heuberg military training area . The route was straight for its entire route. It began in Kaiseringen station on the Zollernalbbahn , headed west and rose continuously. Immediately after exiting the station, the funicular crossed a street, then it ran into a first rock cut, followed shortly afterwards by a second. In the further course, several dirt roads crossed the route of the railway.

History and construction

The Baden state had started to build the Heuberg military training area in 1910 . A rail connection was specified in the specifications. Preliminary planning for a branch in Württemberg from an extension of the Heubergbahn in Meßstetten was rejected (route via today's Wachshütte ( 48 ° 9 ′ 43.48 ″  N , 8 ° 57 ′ 46.09 ″  E )). Plans for a military station ( 48 ° 10 ′ 26.76 ″  N , 8 ° 57 ′ 5.18 ″  E ) below the Blumersberg outdoor fire point were worked out for 8,000 gold marks.

In order to supply and build the military training area, it was decided in 1912 to build a 2.4 km long funicular to the Alb plateau and then a one and a half kilometer long cableway to the Heuberg camp on the plain .

Due to the Versailles Treaty , the area was no longer used for military purposes and the railway was shut down in 1921. It was not rebuilt.

Relics

The former station house in Kaiseringen still exists. The western abutment of the bridge in Kaiseringen has also been preserved, as well as two rock incisions. The route was then filled in. In some places, the filler material over time is set and you can still imagine the incision. The mountain station is no longer recognizable.
