At 4192 m, Sierre-Crans-Montana is one of the longest funiculars in the world. It is located near the Crans-Montana tourist center in the canton of Valais , Switzerland .

history

The funicular, which opened in 1911, originally consisted of two approx. 2000 m long funiculars. There used to be a transfer station to the other cable car between the two separate sections. From April 1997 to December 1997 both funiculars were rebuilt and combined, making the transfer station superfluous. The main reason for the merging of the two funiculars is the travel time: with two cable cars a journey took 30 minutes, with only one cable car 12 minutes.
