Rod (unit)

Stang was an Austrian measure of volume, also named Weyl . Weyl was the smaller measure of the length of rod and was also used as a measure of wood in salt pans such as Ischl , Hallstatt , Ebensee and others. About 400 to 470 cubic meters of firewood per week were needed to operate a brewing pan , so that the use of a wooden measure made sense.

Volume measure

  • 1 rod = 2 feet + 3.5 inches long; 15 feet + 7 inches tall; 6 feet + 2.5 inches drill ring length (fused wood, the triples / turners, about 6 ½ feet in length)
    • Metric: 1 rod = 6.726 meters by 4.924 meters by 1.96 meters = 64.86 cubic meters
  • Styria : 1 stick = 1/6 pan = 136.435 cubic meters
  • 6 bars / Weyl = 48 Rachel = 1 pan = 460 cubic meters (also 462 cubic meters)

Length measure

  • 1 pole = 2 Weyl = 8 Rachel = 6.807 meters
