A stacker crane is a special embodiment of a stacker crane .

It is a stationary but movable crane. Stacking cranes are often used where piece goods, containers or pallets with a load weight of up to 5000 kg have to be transported, sorted and stored. Stacking cranes can carry out these tasks in one operation and thus save the use of additional aids.

Structure and properties

A stacking crane is basically a combination of a fork lift truck and a bridge crane . The double girder overhead traveling crane and a special stacking trolley are essential components of stacking cranes. The stacking trolley is equipped with grippers, forks, thorns or other load handling devices necessary for the stored goods. Stacking cranes can be moved both mechanically and easily by hand and achieve a swivel angle of 360 °. The various designs are specified in DIN 15001.

A stacking crane requires very little space to maneuver pallets , containers and other piece goods. Stack heights of up to 10 meters and aisle widths down to around 1.4 m are possible. Due to the structure from above, the floor of the rack aisles is not interrupted by rails. They are so-called overhead conveyors . Stacking cranes are only used for low or medium handling rates.
