Star Wars: X-Wing is a flight simulator series set in the Star Wars universe , developed by Totally Games and published by LucasArts .

Star Wars: X-Wing

X-Wing is the first in the series and was launched in 1993. The game is designed as a flight simulation and puts the player in the role of a pilot of the rebel alliance. On behalf of the rebels, the player fulfills several loosely connected missions with his star hunter.

X-Wing received a positive response from the critics. Testers praised the authentic behavior of the vehicles, even if it was very demanding. The game received several awards, including an Origin Award . The X-Wing title was also successful in commercial terms . It quickly became one of the most successful games of 1993.

Star Wars: TIE Fighter

TIE Fighter was released in 1994 as the successor to Star Wars: X-Wing . Here the player takes on the role of a pilot in the Imperial fleet. Once again he takes part in various missions, which, however, have little contact with the films. In addition to the main missions, the player receives optional tasks from a secret society of the emperor. In contrast to X-Wing , the player is usually part of a larger fleet and has the option of requesting reinforcements.

Also TIE Fighter was praised by the press. Testers sometimes called it the best flight simulation of all time.

Star Wars: X-Wing vs. TIE fighter

X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter has a different concept than its predecessor. It was designed as a compilation of X-Wing and TIE Fighter , which embeds their content in an extensive multiplayer mode in which up to eight players can compete against each other. On the other hand, a single player campaign with its own storyline was dispensed with. However, this was delivered with an extension under the title Balance of Power .

Star Wars: X-Wing Alliance

X-Wing Alliance was published in 1999 as the final part of the X-Wing series by LucasArts. The concept is similar to the first two parts of the series. The player begins a career as a member of a merchant family and receives his own spaceship in the first mission. In contrast to the previous games, this is a cargo ship instead of a star hunter. Only after the player has joined the rebel alliance will the spaceship types known from the films be adopted. The missions are partly based on the films. For example, the player takes part in the attack on the second Death Star.

Even Alliance was well received by the critics. The majority of the testers came to the conclusion that the game was on the same high level as its predecessor in terms of concept, graphics and storyline and even exceeded this in some places.
