William Giersbach

William H. Giersbach (* 1941 in Portland , United States ) is an American object artist .

Career

William H. Giersbach received his bachelor's degree from Cooper Union , Lower Manhattan and studied from 1967 to 1969 at the University of New Mexico , Albuquerque , where he completed his studies with a master’s degree.

Since 1969 he has been a professor of art at Williams College in Williamstown , Massachusetts . Giersbach lives and works in New York City .

He exhibited in New York, Washington and Boston and made book objects with mirrors since 1973. He was invited to documenta 6 as a participant.

Two works

  • "The shadow of a book" from 1976 is a work in which a white book painted on a pane of glass casts its shadow on a real book that is in front of it and is painted over black.
  • The second “metamorphosis of the book” is the workpiece “After image”, in which an open book with black pages and a green cover is painted with the image of a white book with a red cover.

  • In 1976 the couple Marilyn and William Giersbach were awarded the Arts / Humanities Foundation's fellowship.
