Startas is a brand of handmade shoes that have been made in Croatia since 1976 . The shoe is made exclusively from natural materials. Lining and upper material are made of canvas . The sole is made of natural rubber and the insole is made of natural latex . The shoes are vulcanized ; the sole is fused with the rest of the shoe.

This cult brand was only founded in 1976 in the Croatian city of Vukovar . In 1987, Startas became the official sponsor of the Universiade (World Student Sports Games ) in Zagreb , in which 4,000 athletes from more than 120 countries took part. Startas peaked that same year with sales of five million pairs of shoes. The brand suffered from the conflicts that hit the Balkans in the early 1990s. At that time, the mark was almost gone.
