In various sports there is a start ramp to achieve additional acceleration through a difference in height .

Cycling

In cycling , the ramp allows the rider additional acceleration when starting the time trial, so that his feet can be locked into the click pedals from the start . The start can be done without pushing or pushing off with the foot. The time measurement is integrated in the start ramp and uses a mechanism to measure exactly when the driver starts.

Hang gliders and paragliders

When taking off from a slope, the hang-glider pilot or paraglider pilot must reach the necessary speed for a safe start. The slope of the slope helps him with this. There are launch ramps in many airfields. They facilitate the take-off run on uneven terrain; for paraglider pilots they have the advantage that the numerous ropes or lines of the paraglider cannot get caught on obstacles in the ground (e.g. branches).

Other

It is also used for soap boxes and snowboarding .
