Station ship

In the German Imperial Navy, those warships that were stationed in overseas territories or colonies were referred to as station ships or stationary . Their use was called station service .

The term included all types of warship used. The ships used were given the designation Stations ... placed in front of the ship type (e.g. station cruiser ). Often these were outdated units with little combat value that were used up in station service.
