Reich Statistical Office

The Statistical Reichsamt (StRA) in Berlin emerged on November 18, 1918 from the " Imperial Statistical Office " founded in 1872 .

After the end of the First World War , the newly established office, subordinate to the Reich Ministry of Economics , began its work. In the years of hyperinflation (1920–1923) , short-term price and wage statistics were greatly expanded. After a unified Reich finance administration was created, extensive statistics of the public finances of all regional authorities were built up and the tax statistics were expanded. The national income calculation was developed in connection with the reparation negotiations. The international statistics were also given great weight.

From 1922 to 1943 the authority determined the share index of the Reich Statistical Office .

After the Second World War , the “Statistical Office of the United Economic Area” was founded in the Bizone on January 21, 1948 and replaced by the Federal Statistical Office on April 1, 1950 after the establishment of the Federal Republic of Germany .
