Statuut voor het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Statuut voor het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden ( German  Charter of the Kingdom of the Netherlands ) is part of the constitutions of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and its countries .

The statute was created in 1954 to meet the United Nations' demands for decolonization. All constitutional and simple legal regulations of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and its countries are subordinate to the statute . Together with the grondwet (in the Kingdom and in the country of the Netherlands) and the respective staatsregeling (in the other countries of the kingdom) it forms the constitution of the kingdom and the respective national constitutions.

history

Until the statute was introduced , the Kingdom of the Netherlands consisted of the Netherlands and its colonies . The constitution was the grondwet of 1815. According to Chapter XI (Articles 73 and 74) of the Charter of the United Nations , the kingdom was obliged to decolonize, among other things.

The statute was agreed between the kingdom and the colonies of Suriname and the Netherlands Antilles . Since then it has regulated all fundamental affairs of the kingdom. Since then, the constitutions have consisted of the (superordinate) statute and the grondwet or the state regulation of the respective countries.

In 1975, Suriname left the Kingdom and became a sovereign state. The statute no longer applies there.
