Stay - Foundation for Multiplicative Development is a foundation in Germany that aims to improve the economic situation in the countries of the equatorial region with the help of promotional loans and grants. The funding is aimed at strengthening networks of social entrepreneurs on site. It is hoped that a high degree of self-organization will improve the efficiency of the resources used. The non-profit foundation was established in 2007.

organization

Stay is managed by a foundation board that includes the founder and managing director Benjamin Wolf, Christoph Hoelzel and Myriam Vitovec.

Employee

In February 2020, four part-time employees, one consultant on a fee basis and four marginal employees will be working for Stay. A network of around 60 volunteers supports the foundation. As a rule, several interns work for the foundation at the same time.

Seat

The foundation is based in Stuttgart.

Areas of support and topics

The foundation promotes economic self-help through local development workers. This is intended to change development cooperation in such a way that a lasting effect is to be generated in the behavior of the recipients. This is understood as a reaction to the criticism of traditional development aid. Instead of primarily structural or humanitarian support, as provided by traditional development aid organizations, networks of social entrepreneurs are to be created in developing countries. These should enable the training of multipliers in the long term and on their own. In terms of content, the focus is on the three components of health, education and personal income.

All Stay support measures aim to enable a self-determined, free life for all people.

Financial independence

A central theme of the foundation is the development of concepts for financial independence. Projects should be structured in such a way that they have a sustainable effect and generate sufficient returns to be self-sustaining in the long term.

Stay Alliances

Stay Alliances are local networks of sponsored social entrepreneurs. They are organized democratically and are controlled by their members themselves. The focus here is on the effects of group dynamics, self-control and self-interest. The aim is to share knowledge and provide mutual support. In addition, a competition for the best solution approaches and strategies should be promoted. Members are selected based on defined criteria. After a start-up phase, the members of the Stay Alliances decide independently on the funding of aid projects.

Regional focus

Stay development projects are currently underway in Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya.

Sample programs and initiatives

The LATEK Stay Alliance Uganda has been bundling the activities of 30 social entrepreneurs since 2017 and was officially recognized as an NGO in February 2018 .
