The Steall Falls (also Eas an Steill or An Steall Ban in Gaelic , which means "The White Drain") in the Scottish Highlands are the second highest waterfall in Scotland with a drop of over 120 meters . They are located in the Lochaber region in Glen Nevis , about 10 kilometers southeast of Fort William in the Mamores mountain range at the foot of the 1099 meter high Sgùrr a 'Mhàim , directly south across from Ben Nevis . The falls, which pour over the slope in several cascades and parallel streams, are fed by the water of the Allt Coire a 'Mhail . This small stream, which rises in the Mamores on the 1032 meter high Am Bodach and runs in a hanging valley , flows into the River Nevis at the foot of the waterfall .

The waterfall can be reached on foot via a hike in Glen Nevis, which leads from the end of the single track road from Fort William through the rocky River Nevis Gorge into the upper Glen Nevis. There it is necessary to cross the Nevis River on a three-rope bridge in order to reach the waterfall directly.

In the film adaptations of the Harry Potter novels , the Steall Falls were used as a filming location several times. They can be seen particularly well in the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire , in which they serve as the backdrop for Harry Potter's fight against the dragon during the first task of the Triwizard Tournament.
