Stefan Giller

Stefan January Giller (born September 19, 1833 in Opatówek , Poland ; † January 27, 1918 ibid) was a Polish writer and teacher in Kalisz and Opatowek. He and his older brother Agaton Giller played an important role in the Polish national movement .

Life

The son of Jan Giller and Franciszka Szpadkowska was a poet and writer, a contemporary witness of Polish romanticism. He also taught the Polish language in schools in Kalisz at a time when the Russian government of Congress Poland was trying to drive the Polish language out of public life.

Giller was very respected by his students and fellow men. Among his students were well-known personalities such as the President of the Polish Republic, Stanisław Wojciechowski , the Rector of Vilnius University , Alfons Parczewski .

In 1997, many letters and documents from Stefan and Agaton Giller were found and published under the title: "The Unknown Letters of Giller the family".

Around 1855 he married Teressa Rohrens (* 1836 in Kalisz) in Kalisz.
