Stefan Kraus

Stefan Kraus (* 1960 in Cologne ) is a German art historian and since 2008 director of the Kolumba Museum , the art museum of the Archdiocese of Cologne .

Act

Kraus studied art history, German and pedagogy. From 1982 to 1989 he was a freelancer at the Kölnischer Kunstverein . In 1991 he received his doctorate in art history with a thesis on Walter Ophey and in the same year he became curator at the Kolumba in 1991 , the direction of which he was appointed to succeed Joachim M. Plotzek in 2008 .

The Archdiocese of Cologne's art museum, which has already won many architectural awards, was voted “ Museum of the Year ” in 2013. Kraus has been helping to develop the concept of the museum since 1991 and, together with his team, stands for "the extraordinary care with which it is played". On November 14, 2017, he received the Friedlieb Ferdinand Runge Prize for unconventional art mediation from the Prussian Sea Trade Foundation in Berlin , endowed with 10,000 euros. The juror was Matthias Flügge .
