Matthias Flügge

Matthias Flügge (born February 5, 1952 in Demmin ) is a German art historian and curator .

Life

The son of the Heinrich Zille editor Gerhard Flügge (1914–1972), completed his training as a skilled worker for technical coal in 1970. From 1972 to 1976 Flügge studied at the Humboldt University in Berlin . Subsequently, from 1977 he was editor of the magazine Bildende Kunst . From 1984 he worked as a freelancer and returned in 1990 as editor-in-chief of the magazine Bildende Kunst until it ceased publication in 1991. In 1991 Matthias Flügge became editor-in-chief of the magazine neue bildende kunst , and in 1992 a member of the board of trustees of the Art Fund Foundation in Bonn. In 2000, the new visual arts ceased to appear. Afterwards Matthias Flügge worked as a freelance publicist and exhibitor. In 1995 he became a member of the Berlin Academy of the Arts in the "Visual Arts" section; from 1997 to 2006 he was its vice-president. In October 2012 he was appointed rector of the Dresden University of Fine Arts . Matthias Flügge was confirmed in this office in the rector election on February 1, 2017.

Awards

In 1994 Matthias Flügge received the Friedlieb Ferdinand Runge Prize, which was awarded for the first time .

In November 2008 he was awarded the Cavalier Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland in recognition of his activities in increasing interest in Polish art. His exhibition Riß im Raum in the mid-1990s showed contemporary art from Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia. Furthermore, his exhibition EU positive works by artists from the EU accession countries . The cavalier cross was presented by the Polish envoy Wojciech Pomianowski, the laudation was given by the artist Mark Lammert .
