Fine arts (subtitle: magazine for painting, plastic, graphic arts, handicrafts and industrial design ) was an art magazine published in the GDR for topics of fine arts , handicrafts and industrial design . history

The magazine bildende kunst was published in 1947 by Karl Hofer and Oskar Nerlinger with the subtitle magazine for painting, graphics, sculpture and architecture and was initially published by Verlag Bildende Kunst GmbH until 1949. The editorial team was headed by Ernst Wüsten and Carl-Ernst Mathias. During this time she dealt with topics and discussions on all-German art. From January 1953, the now capitalized magazine "Fine Art - magazine for painting, sculpture, graphics and book art, applied arts and handicrafts" was renamed by the Association of Visual Artists of Germany (VBK), later renamed the Association of Visual Artists of the German Democratic Republic (VBK- GDR) and the State Commission for Art Affairs. Due to the granting of a license to VEB Verlag der Kunst by the political leadership for subjects of the fine arts, applied arts and art studies, as well as image production, the magazine initially appeared in this publisher. The Association of Visual Artists became the sole publisher as early as 1954. From 1955 the visual arts appeared in a smaller format in a less classical style, from January 1956 it also appeared monthly. From 1965 it was published by the Henschel publishing house in Berlin . The editors-in-chief were Cay Brockdorff (1953–1954), Herbert Sandberg (1954–1957), Horst Jähner (provisional, 1957), then an editorial board under Ulrich Kuhirt: Siegfried Heinz Begenau (1959–1964), Waltraud Westermann (provisional, 1964), Jutta Schmidt (1964–1972), Ulrich Kuhirt (provisional 1972–1975), Peter Michel (1975–1988) and Bernd Rosner (from 1988). With the March 1991 edition (39th year) the publication was discontinued.
