Horst Jähner

Horst Jähner (born October 14, 1918 in Berlin ; † December 30, 2006 there ) was a German art historian . He was nicknamed Expressionismus-Jähner .

Life

In 1937 Jähner joined the NSDAP . Jähner worked from 1938 to 1940 as a volunteer for an insurance company. From 1940 to 1945 he was a lieutenant in the Wehrmacht , from 1945 to 1947 a British prisoner of war. From 1947 to 1949 he studied law and economics , 1949–1952 art history , theater history , archeology and philology . From 1947 to 1963 he worked as an art historian. In 1961 he was elected to the AICA Critics Association. 1963–1987 he was head and director of VEB Verlag der Kunst Dresden. In 1978 Jähner received his doctorate, from 1978 to 1985 he worked as an honorary professor for art history at the Dresden University of Fine Arts . In 1987 he was awarded the GDR Art Prize.
