Gerhard Flügge

Gerhard Flügge (born August 15, 1914 in Demmin , † October 7, 1972 in Berlin ) was a German writer. As editor and biographer, he played a decisive role in the dissemination of Heinrich Zille's works in the GDR .

Gerhard Flügge first worked as a bookseller, later as an office worker. In 1948 he became head of the city culture office in Demmin. Together with Zille's daughter Margarete Köhler-Zille, he set up a Heinrich Zille memorial in Demmin in 1950, organized exhibitions and lectures and published eight publications on Zille and his work. He initiated a major traveling exhibition organized by the Academy of the Arts in 1958 on the occasion of the artist's 100th birthday.

From 1964 Gerd Flügge lived and worked in Berlin, where he died in 1972. His son, the art historian Matthias Flügge (* 1952), also publishes on Heinrich Zille.
