from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Steffen Bender is a German climate scientist. He is head of the Department for Climate Impacts and Economics at the Climate Service Center Germany (GERICS) of the Helmholtz Center Geesthacht .

Life

Bender completed a chemistry and geology degree at the Universities of Heidelberg and Kiel. He did his doctorate at the LMU Munich and completed his habilitation in applied geology at the Ruhr University in Bochum .

Act

Bender is particularly concerned with the effects of climate change, the analysis of the consequences of climate change and advising cities and municipalities. He argues that climate protection and climate adaptation must be thought together and complains that instead there is often a camp thinking between the two areas. He also emphasizes that to create resilience for complex systems , such as cities, a number of selective measures are not sufficient, but that the entire system must be made climate- resilient .
