Limmathaus in Zurich from 1931

The architecture office Steger and Egender in Zurich existed from about 1922 to 1932. Office partners were the architects Adolf Steger (1888–1939) and Karl Egender (1897–1969). With its construction contracts, mostly won in architecture competitions, it was one of the protagonists of the New Building there . In particular, the new construction of the trade school with the arts and crafts museum (1930 to 1933) is the first large, public building of classical modernism in Zurich and, together with the Zett house , the waterworks houses and the Neubühl housing estate, is a prominent testimony to the new architectural style. Steger and Egender were the first architects of the Zurich Zoo , founded in 1929, but most of the buildings have been demolished. The Volkshaus Limmathaus in the industrial quarter is also noteworthy . At the housing exhibition in Basel-Eglisee, which documented the status of Swiss housing construction in 1930, Steger and Egender were there with a block of houses.
