Stone cooler break

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Steinkühlerpause is a tariff regulation for breaks for need and breaks for line workers . It is named after the then negotiator Franz Steinkühler of IG Metall in Baden-Württemberg .

Collective agreement

The Steinkühler break is part of various regulations for the humanization of the world of work, which are agreed in the "Wage Framework Agreement II" of October 20, 1973:

  • Pieceworkers are therefore entitled to an additional rest break of 5 minutes per hour of work ( stone cooler break ).
  • They are also entitled to at least 3 minutes for personal needs per working hour (pee break).
  • Other provisions relate to extended co-determination rights of the works council at the group, assembly line and clock work with the aim of intensification of work to reduce and avoid repetitive work.

The collective bargaining regulations were enforced by the employees in the 1973 metal collective bargaining round in Baden-Württemberg after a three-week strike. The agreement therefore only applies to the metal industry in Baden-Württemberg. In other parts of Germany there are partially comparable regulations.

During the 1996 collective bargaining negotiations in Baden-Württemberg, this break was limited to piece workers on the assembly line .
