Stelzfuß stands for

  • Pedestal (prosthesis) a primitive leg prosthesis , mostly for lower leg amputees . The remaining knee joint is flexed and the rest of the lower leg rests on the upper part of a simple wooden leg. Other models of the pedestal have also come down to us.
  • Stilt foot (component) also figuratively a single column that supports a balcony or another component of a house. The “house with a pedestal” in Halberstadt , which was destroyed immediately before the end of the Second World War, is well known.
