The Stenorette is a dictation machine built by Grundig AG in the 1950s and by Grundig Business Systems from 2001 with a particularly high level of use in public administration . The device is popular because of its robustness.

Magnetic tapes or magnetic strips are required as media; the last types before the introduction of digital recording methods are the tapes in an unusual unidirectional cassette system that prevents compatibility with models from other manufacturers or other models from the same manufacturer.

In addition to hand-held dictation machines, there are also stationary dictation machines for the same cassettes. These differ from hand-held dictation devices in particular in terms of size, operating elements (buttons instead of slide switches) and the fact that they can only be operated with a mains power connection. In secretariats, playback devices with foot switches and headphones are used.
