Stern Cooperation Project

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Stern Cooperation Project (SCP) has been dealing with the history of the German art dealer family of Jewish descent Julius Stern, Selma Stern, Max Stern , Hedi Stern and Gerda Stern and with the history of the galleries that were owned by this family from 1913 to 1987 since 2018 . These are Galerie Stern (Düsseldorf), West's Galleries (London) and Dominion Gallery (Montreal).

background

The Stern Cooperation Project (SCP) has been dealing with a research area since 2018 that has been investigated by the Max Stern Art Restitution Project (MSARP) since 2002. While the MSARP focuses on the identification and return of stolen works of art, the SCP aims to reconstruct the persecution-related migration history of the family and their galleries.

The tasks of the SCP are connected with the questions of persecution-related confiscated cultural property ( looted art ), which have been increasingly researched since the beginning of the 21st century and which play central roles for the MSARP.

Public appeal

In order to reach a broad public, the SCP published the following call with the start of the project in July 2018.

"Institutions and people who have information about the Stern family, their galleries and their works of art are asked to make this available to the project ..."
